I heart NYC: reason #4

The window displays at Bergdorf Goodman.

Yesterday, while on our way home Jim and I walked past Bergdorf Goodman, a store I admit I am intimidated to even walk into. Their holiday window displays were AMAZING. Above are just two of the 40+ oppulant and beautiful windows. A lot of stores have impressive displays, but Bergdorf's definitely take the cake :). A lot of the windows appeared to be Alice in Wonderland themed.

I heart NYC: reason #3

The Japanese H&M

I discovered this store described as "the Japanese H&M". Obviously I jumped on the subway and went this afternoon. It turns out it is also a store that sells these shirts Jim has been eyeing for months. Naturally, we had to buy lots of clothes there, here is a pic of the shopping bag...need I say more.

Home Delivery

It turns out that New Yorkers just have everything delivered. Jim and I have been suckers doing our own laundry or actually going to a store to get groceries. Now that we have been here a few weeks we have figured a few things out. Instead of hauling our laundry 6 blocks and sitting in a laundromat for two hours we just send it out. They charge per lb (it is kind of expensive...it is amazing how heavy clothes are) I was a little apprehensive about other people touching my underwear, but they give it back to you in a fresh smelling laundry cube (pictured below) making it pretty space efficient and able to fit into our tiny closets.

I thought groceries shopping was ridiculously hard. Recently I learned that most people here haven't been to the grocery store in years. They order their food online and it is delivered to your kitchen counter top. Here is a pic of our first delivery. Everything was surprisingly fresh and delicious.

Slowly but surely we are turning from hillbilly turists into New Yorkers.

I Heart NYC: reason #2

Reason #2:You can stumble into remarkable places just to get out of the rain

The goal is to go out and do something exciting every Saturday. Due to my lack of friends in the city I dragged Jim to the Martha Stewart Holiday Craft Fair today. It had all sorts of delightful holiday handmade things. The best part of the trip was that I bought Lotta things from the one and only Lotta Jansdotter. Kind of a mini celebrity in the home textiles world. It took all my strength to not harass her (in retrospect I wish I made Jim take our picture).

On our way to the Martha Stewart Craft offices we got a little lost and ended up having to walk quite a few blocks in the rain. Thankfully, this journey led us to the Chelsea Market. This refuge from the cold turned out to be a remarkable discovery. It is a magical cave a block long full of delicious bakeries, shops, & restaurants. I am not exaggerating when I say I had the best hot chocolate of my life here. It was the perfect Saturday lunch spot.

We will be taking all of our out of town guests to the market :)

I heart NYC: reason #1

I decided to start a list of reasons I love living in NYC. Here is the first post of many.

Tinsel Trading Company
I am a regular reader of Martha Stewart's craft blog, and now I can actually go to the stores they blog about. Today I went to this adorable vintage ribbon store. I found all sorts of vintage ribbons, trims, feathers, and buttons.

The best part about the store is that it is literally two blocks from my house. Just one of the many reasons I love living here!
Tomorrow is my first day of work...hopefully I still love NYC then.

Savior Joe's

After hitting up a few other markets we finally made it to Trader Joe's. And I must say it was such a relief. I had nightmares about Jim eating us out of house and home due to the escalated prices of food. $4 for a can of soup...you have got to be kidding. Luckily two subway stops down on the 6 train brings me to the mecca a.k.a. Trader Joe's. Limes three for a dollar, carrots $1.50 a bag, cereal $2.50 a box, this is reasonable even compared to Syracuse. But, cheap high quality food comes at a price. I am not exaggerating when I say the line went half way around the store. Apparently I am not the only person who discovered this grocery heven.

I wonder

how long it will take me to not go the wrong direction on the subway
